Miriam Budzáková (b. 1997, Slovakia) is an emerging dance and performance artist, currently based in Vienna.
She is a graduate of SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, Austria), and holds a B.A. in Dance Theatre and Performance from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Miriam’s creative work oscillates between seriousness, humor, and sentimentalism. She researches the experience of the body within the uncomfortable, intimate, personal, social, and public spheres, through which she creates performative situations as a collective spectatorial experience. She often dives into the dynamics of audience engagement, by researching the role of spectators, exploring their responsibilities and capacities within various performance contexts.
As a performer, she enjoys entering roles, in which she is challenged to test her limits.
Particularly working through on-stage tasks, guided by instructions and directions without a predetermined scenario or course.
As a co-creator and performer she worked with various artists such as Manuel Ronda, Ceren Oran, Rafael Dziemidok and Elina Pirinen. The work she created and co-created has been presented in festivals around Europe and Slovakia, including Kiosk, NuDance fest and “Buffalo” at MACRO, Roma.
From 2021 to 2024 she has been part of the civic association INSTITUT INSTITUT,, collaborating and performing in several productions. She is currently part of the Viennese multidisciplinary collective ArTemporis.
Since 2017, Miriam has been co-organizing the multi-genre dance festival "Tanečno" in the north of Slovakia.
