FIRST TOUCH WITH THE SPHERE
Premiere: 29.7.2021, New Synagogue Žilina, Festival Kiosk, SK
The performance was created as part of the event "First touch with the sphere" within the festival of contemporary theatre and dance Kiosk in the New Synagogue in Žilina.
Juraj Gábor's artwork Completing the Sphere, which was created from December 2020 to March 2021 in the New Synagogue in Žilina, is a vision of a monumental architectural transformation of the space. A wooden construction at the intersection of architecture and sculpture, it draws attention to an invisible sphere (16 metres in diameter) that was drawn by architect Peter Behrens into the cube of the 1931 building of the Žilina synagogue in Žilina
In the space of the sphere there is a speaker and a fan. While it's thirty degrees outside, inside two performers are lying down, letting the cool air from the fan cool them and playing Christmas songs.
"We, two female performers - we focus on the creation of movement material influenced by the aforementioned opinion-forming circumstances. Our initiation relies on the visual aspect of computer screen savers, which do not directly engage our perception. Our aim is to explore a repetitive choreographed act in space that holds its form while simultaneously plunging the viewer into a visual delirium, as when we peer into the nerd. "
