The project by award-winning choreographer Ceren Oran began in 2020, in Germany during lockdown. It was based on the performers' inner desire to keep moving, to stay in touch and to keep creating. Thanks to MOVE Ostrava and the Tanečno festival, the project grew and an international collaboration was formed, resulting in an energetic performance for public space.
The Urge draws inspiration from the frustrating experience of a year and a half of pandemonium and separation, which it transforms into something vital and contagious in the best sense of the word - in sharing joy, energy and fascination with movement in direct contact with the audience in public space.
Ceren Oran's choreography combines energetic, synchronous dance passages with improvised solos.
"For me, dancing in a public space means getting rid of the comfortable theatrical environment, going with my skin in the market and reaching out to those audiences who otherwise would not come to contemporary dance for various reasons. I believe in the fascinating, contagious and inspiring power of contemporary dance and I strongly believe that dance can be accessible to anyone - anytime, anywhere." Ceren Oran
